Students don't know the mistakes they are making (Speaking and Writing)
In my classes I have met many students that have been studying for a long time but they still don't know what mistakes they are making. They make the mistakes again and again until a teacher corrects their writings.
Students write things unrelated to the topic without knowing it ( Speaking and Writing)
Students sometimes don't know that they are writing something unrelated or ( or not related enough). I think the reason for this is because in the student's native language they would mention something off topic to be polite. Or, students don't know what to write so they add something... hoping that will be ok. But often students don't realize they are off the topic. In this case you need someone to show you that your are off topic. Let me give an example:
Question: Should you buy or rent a house?
Answer: You should buy a house because renting is very expensive.
The answer is irrelevant. Why? Because it is also expensive to buy a house! This answer doesn't make buying a house any better.
Students don't know that their studying method isn't good enough
( Reading and listening)
Don"t just check the answer key for the questions you got wrong. You need to understand how each new word is used in the reading. You must know the different uses of your new vocabulary words. You must study the reading and identify the topic correctly. It's hard work. Do you have a vocabulary Journal?
Students don't know that their are no shortcuts
Students often ask me if their are any secrets or shortcuts to learning. The answer is that there are some strategies that you can use. But I takes a long time to build reading and listening comprehension. How long do you think it took me to learn English? Yes. A long time. I didn't learn my vocabulary in one night.
Students don't know that some CELPIP classes offered at schools are too large
If you are taking a class from a school then make sure that the teacher is correcting your writing and speaking. Sometimes classes are too large and the teacher may not have time to correct your speaking and writing. Correcting your speaking and writing is probably the most important task.
Have you taken the test several times and still haven't passed the test?
If you have been studying on your own and you haven't been successful then you should find a school or a hire a private tutor. Many schools offer CELPIP courses fairly cheaply and they cover strategy of the test and the teacher may do corrections also. The most helpful way is to hire a private tutor.
